This program is designed for experienced and professional-level family historians, heritage professionals and librarians who wish to deepen their research skills through direct work with original records. It is not a beginner course.

For the NSW Records Masterclass, attendance is limited to around 30 participants due to space restrictions within the archives. This ensures small-group learning and direct access to staff and records.

For other courses offered live via Zoom, attendance is also limited to around 30 attendees.

The three-day program includes orientation, practical research sessions, a comprehensive syllabus, guided instruction from experts, and exclusive access to archives. Pre-event live sessions, recorded webinars and post-event materials are also included.

Light catering (morning and afternoon tea and lunch) is provided during the event. Also included is the welcome function on the first night. Participants are responsible for their own accommodation and travel, though nearby options will be suggested in advance.

Participants should bring valid ID for archive access, along with notebooks, digital devices and pre-read materials provided prior to the program commencement.

Registration is online through Past in Practice. Places are allocated on a first-come basis, and a waitlist will be maintained once capacity is reached.

Given the limited capacity and planning requirements, refunds are not normally available once registration is confirmed. Refunds will only be issued in cases of documented medical emergencies or other exceptional circumstances.

Yes, registrations may be transferred to another eligible participant if approved in writing before the event.

Yes, participants who complete the full NSW Records Masterclass program will receive a Past in Practice Masterclass Certificate of Participation, recognising their commitment to advanced family history study.

Certificates are not issued for online courses.

The program features a combination of Museums of History NSW staff, subject specialists, and professional genealogists.
